So, I'm looking at some introductions when I realize that I never posted my own! I'm such a do mas! And now, the moment you've all been waitng for...
My name is Patrick, I am married to Cori. I work as an irrigation maintnence technician (I make the rain!) for Walter's Gardens, a wholesale perrenial flower farm and greenhouse located in Zeeland and Hamilton, MI. I am a "jack of al trades", I am a welder, fabricator, plumber, electrician, framer, painter, heavy equipment operator, gardner, farmer, mechanic, and generally, Mr.Fixit. I work on everything from conveyor belts, to John Deere 8120 tractors, box folders to linear irrigation machines. It is interesting, but, keeps me VERY busy! Cori is currently unemployed, but, was working as an assistant pastry chef, mostly decorating cakes. In my spare time (10-15 minutes a week) I enjoy working on my 1977 Standard Sunroof Bug, and my mid travel sandrail project, and going to Silver Lake, Ialso enjoy dirt biking and camping with Cori. Cori enjoys pinstriping, dirtbiking, camping, and art (she designed the Goodvolks logo). We recently purchased a home after looking for almost 2 years! After closing Christmas Eve, the work began, although the house is only two years old, it needed plenty. We repainted every wall, I installed a new ceramic tile floor (first time), and we rearranged the kitchen, and replaced the dishwasher with a cabinet. I installed all of our appliances, and made a shelf for the kitchen. We have been moved in since the end of January, and are loving every minute! Now, back to the improtant part, the VW's. Although I was brought home from the hospital back in 1976 in the back seat of my dad's '71 super', I've been "into" them since buying my first back in 1992, a 1973 Standard. It puked out on me on the way home from the seller's house, and I still to this day do not know what was wrong with that car. Anyhow, after towing the car home, I figured I would start with a good cleaning, which revealed all the rust! It was pretty rough, rockers, channels, rear quarters, firewall, etc. Not detered (I was 16, and taking an auto body class, I knew what I was in for, right?) I tore into that car with the vision of something great! The car was taken apart, and boxed, and new parts were ordered, an adjustable ball joint front end with drop spindles and disk brakes, from Station 1, and a set of stainless steel braided brake hoses, front and rear 3/4" sway bars, and 4 KYB gas a just shocks, all from Barrett Enterprises (remember Station 1 and Barrett) Alas I met a girl, and as time went by, the '73 project was put aside for a Baja for her, she left, I got the car, it was a good trade! I sold that Baja, bought a 412 Variant, drove it for a while, sold it, bought a cavalier Z-24, moved, sold the Z, bought a '72 super, sold it, bought an S-10, then, I moved again, this time across the state and into a little tiny apartment. I had a fiberglass buggy in there also, brought that with me in the move from Lansing to Holland in '99, sold it to a guy from Byron Center I think. A couple of VW-less years went by, I picked up a '70 Bug body for my original project after selling off what was left of the rusty shell of the '73. That '70 turned out to be just as bad if not worse than the '73! The '70 eventually went down the road also.
Then, in '04 I found the current incarnation of my dream, the '77 Sunroof. Since purchasing I have touched every nut and bolt on the car, installed the lowered front end, etc. from back in '92, built the 2054cc engine, did all the bodywork/mods, made my own lexan windows, and painted the car, the only thing outsourced was the balancing of the engine internals. Hopefully, this summer, I will finally get to drive the project that started over 16 years ago. I enjoy browsing the net for VW related info when I have time and may have inadvertantly introduced the Goodvolks and Harsh Winters through a classified ad looking for an 8 ball shift knob, oops! JK, the HW guys seem great and I look forward to meeting some of them! I mention HW because, I've been lurking around their forums for years and noticed that I never did an intro there either! So, that's me, a nut in a shell! Sorry it took so long!
