Merry Christmas everybody!
Show of hands, how many members will be taking their VW's out sometime during the holiday?

Yes Mike we did and Thank You . 6:00 am Bud picked me up , 7:00 picked up trailer , good ride up saw roads being treated way up North , picked car , weather man said 3:00 PM it would start it did ....... Drove thru all the warnings with car trailer in tow.Snow , sleet freezing rain , heavy cross winds . From way North of Grand Rapids NOT ONE plow for the next 150 miles or so . We were down to 35-40 mph and in 4x4 . slush between lanes was getting up to maybe 5" and people still passing . Saw a tractor trailer rig with a trailer his ass end at times swaying back & forth a foot till he got to a rest area . We got to Bud's road ........ it starts with a HILL ....... after 3 trys we backed down back out on the main road "river bottom" still have a HILL but not as steep and had a few more cars over it . we made it up and on to M43 drove 3 miles into town then North a mile to Bud's road . now we still have 2 more hills , one mild and the second steeper and higher but you get a running charge at it and we did it . now I need to back in the trailer to unload , only took two trys to get back far enough due to lack of traction on 4" of BB's . got unloaded and still have to return trailer a another 70 mile round trip got home 10:30 PM .... What a day .....

Lower Michigan sucks at maintaining roads in the winter. A lot of places don't bother sending the plows out until six or seven in the morning...even if it was snowing all afternoon and the night before. Up in the Keweenaw pininsual they would come by with a plow truck or road grader (with side plow so they can clear two lanes at once) every hour or two even it it was just flurries. Then when it isn't snowing they cut the banks along the roads back with giant diesel snow blowers and load it into trucks and dump it outside the city to keep the roads wide and reduce snow drifting back onto the roads. They don't let the snow build up in the first place. 2014 when we had 338 inches of snow, there was not one snow day. 8 inches a night was pretty normal, yet there was hardly ever more than a couple inches of snow on the roads at any given time night or day. Expensive? Yeah, but man is it nice. Lol
