Ed, I do, but not really wanting to part with it?? With Type 1 beam and spindles will lower the front end about 3" The ball joint beam itself is the same the as a type 1, difference are the spindles.

difference are the spindles. ...and the trailing arms (ball joint direction). There's a thought. I could put the thing trailing arms and spindles back on the Beetle beam. I'll see what it looks like lowered first.

Looks like it could use the extra couple inches from original Thing arms and spindles. If the ball joint beam is solid, could just swap out arms and spindles. It will hold up fine without the thing style gussets on the shock towers, but if you are after originality, they wouldn't be hard to make.

Looks like it could use the extra couple inches from original Thing arms and spindles. The tires don't rub, so I will leave it like this until I rebuild the original Thing beam.

Awesome, I would love to see that Thing back up to its original stance.

I have been trying to decide what to name the Thing. Apparently it was staring me in the face. Das Kubel - "The Bucket" fits its current condition Also got the rear fenders mounted

I was still having idle problems. Put a new set of points in; no change. Richened the idle mixture and set the timing again and success! Since I was on a roll, I pulled the gas gauge sender. Almost gave up when I saw it but with a little elbow grease it works good as new. Attachments:

I drove the thing around for about an hour tonight. It's running pretty good. I'm happy.
