Hi guys. My rail shakes super bad when letting the clutch out in first. I was told it was the bowden tube. I don't have one.....all mounts seem to be ok as well. Any ideas?

How is the trans mounted? Rubber or solid?

Its a cable operated. The trans looks to be solid mounted in therear but rubber mounted up front. I used a floor jack to check for movement but it seems solid and tight. How do I know what bowden tube I need? The clutch cable looks to be home made or something.....

Good luck with the fix. My recently acquired 67 bug shakes like crazy when letting out the clutch in first too. Then it died. Maybe in my case it's because I've not drive stick in a year and was dropping the clutch or something. I've not been under it to look like you have on your rail.

Thanks! I'm hoping its not to big of a deal. I don't really want to pull the motor out of it.

It's best to be either rubber mounted all around or solid, not both. My car use to shake when it was rubber mounted. Changed it over to solid and it went away. My car is also retro fitted with a Berg intermediate mount.

A buddy of mine has one I'm gonna try. Just gotta go pull it off his old bug chassis (or what's left of it anyway). I'm still trying to figure out the best way to attach it though.

I can proudly say that after 16 years that I have never broke a nose cone either. So, I guess the old saying still stands " there is more then one way to skin a cat". Mike, can you honestly tell me that your old dragster had rubber mounts. Last I know the only rubber on a race car is left on the track ;D

That's where the kafer style brace and intermediate trans mount comes into play. Plus, when my car had the shakes the first thing I went to was the tube. After replacing that with no luck I called out to Bergs since that was where my mounts were from and talked to Clyde. First thing he asked was if I was running rubber mounts. After replying yes I was instructed to try solid mounts. This took care of the problem.

I run solid front, welded mid mount, solid rear with strap, and kafer brace. No shaking, no broken nose cones, but, I am easy on my car P&D enterprises has a Bowden tube or two left, if you need one...
