My dear sister, Kathy, passed away on 12/9/08. Today is her funeral. While I am sure I will need some strength to get me through today, I want to encourage all of you to take life by the horns and live it!
As many of you know, I spent a little bit of time customizing my '70 Beetle. I bought in in October 2007 and it was pretty much undrivable until August. During that time, Kathy would stop by to give me grief (hey, she was my big sister) about my slow progress. She wanted me to get done so that she could get a chance to finally drive a Beetle (she was 52 and evidently never got that chance in high school when they were still plentiful). I got the car done, but never got the chance to toss her the keys--mostly because I kept thinking: "I'll wait til next spring." Next spring will not come for Kathy.
This week's events have opened my eyes to just how short life can be. Don't put off doing the good things in life until tomorrow--do it now!
She left behind two grown boys (28 and 32) who will miss her very much. I am introducing the 28 year old to the great world of VWs, and will bringing him with me to some shows next year. If you happen to run into us, be sure to give him a warm GoodVolks welcome.
Bill

Sorry for your loss Bill. My prayers will be with you today.
My father often talked about restoring an old Volvo. That was the first car he and my mom owned. He never got to it. That is part of the reason I went ahead and got my first VW then got the one I really wanted.

I am sorry for your loss. I felt the same way after my father passed away in 2007. That was a big reason why we started our adoption of our little girl. We took my dad for a ride in our bug once when he could get around. We thought he would have fun. But all he wanted to do was travel the back roads and look for deer. He loved seeing deer. That among others will be a time I will never forget.

Sorry to hear that Bill, I too have lost a sister too early my sister was 26 when she passed and she too always wanted to make the best of all her time. We were trying to get her VW road worthy before she passed as well but did not make it now I am working on fully restoring it to what she wanted to keep forever. Hope we see you at some shows this summer.

Bill, Sorry for your loss, We all have been touched by the pain. I'll make sure to flip Ruffuss keys to your Nephew this coming year. I lost my mother in law last fall, more like a Mom then my birth mother and one of my fondest memorys is her in my buggy, on the dunes she so dearly loved. Again Sorry for your lost, the good die young. Later Kenn

I remember the story about your sister and the car you were restoring. The similarities are scary. I really appreciate the kind words, everyone. I've not met any of you personally, but felt you would all understand the situation. I will be at more GTGs and of course the Ypsi show with my nephew. I am thinking this would be a good excuse to get the bus after all!
