Finally fixed Ruby's exhaust leak by ditching the worn out heater boxes and installing some new J tubes that I have had in a box since 1995.
Never used the heater anyways.

The 66 Baja got a new clutch cable and Bowden tube, and then 11 miles worth of driving.

Cleaned out the garage to prepare to park both VWs for the winter. Then took Ruby for a drive. Great weather this weekend!

Well, the Pig of Plastic is at the repair shop. Came out after lunch Friday, and found a VERY suspicious puddle of oil under the car. When I pulled the car forward, it turned out that this oil looked like it was the expensive Redline gearbox oil that I put in the gearbox.
Not good.
I called for a flatbed to come pick up the car, and after a long wait, a truck came out to pick up the car.
Unfortunately, it was sort of a flatbed, where the back pivoted up and you were supposed to pull the car up with a winch, and then tilt the bed and be on your merry way.
Turns out that the Puma is low enough to the ground that you can's to this without scraping the front up, and if you tried to pull the car up from the rear, it would scrape the front on the ground even worse. By the way, this took an additional hour...
The driver called in to get another flatbed out there, but he could not come for several more hours.
I decided to check and see if I could drive to the shop, since the gearbox wasn't noisy, so I drove from East Lansing to Perry at about 25 miles per hour.
Today, they put the car on the hoist, and I found out that the passenger side axel boot had disintegrated, and the oil was coming from there.
I dropped of 2 new boots, and 2 more quarts of the Redline, (which I had just installed at $19 per quart) and I should have the car back tomorrow.
In the grand scheme of things, this one was cheap.

Picked up the Pig of Plastic today.
The new axle boots are on, and it is not peeing Redline any longer.
Going to clean everything up, and shoot some pictures this week.

Changed the oil in the Pig of Plastic today, and re-installedd the windshield washer reservoir. I thin washed and treated everything. Will take a lot of photos tomorrow, and put the car to bed for the winter sometime this week.

Fired up the Sport Bug today and let it run for a while. Changed the glove box latch to one with an original key (thanks Rudy), replaced the headlight switch with an NOS one I got from John (logo isn't worn off). Tried to figure out why the little spot light in the dash isn't working - a black bulb looks to be the reason. Had a spare - nope, that one is black too. Looks like I'll add that to my swap list for next year.

Took the Sport Bug to my moms for the winter. I wanted to keep it here to tinker over the winter, but there just isn't enough room with the tractor/snow blower in the garage too.
