I did not get to do anything to the Baja today like I really wanted to. I had to spend the day working on a Plymouth! I really wanted to get the pan outside and use the sandblaster a little since it makes too big of a mess in the garage.

Ghiastein I understand completely. Well look at the bright side you now have an opportunity to replace the crank with a counterwieghted one. Makes a HUGE diff.

This my sound odd but I love a 100% stock VW engine. I love the way they act sound and drive. I have the weird 70's engine and I want to keep it that way. I have the correct fuel pump, carburetor, and distributer. The only thing that will not be stock is my 36hp fan shroud and the alternator. I am also thinking of yanking off the euro-sport exhaust and running a stock one.

AJ, can you get the 13mm nut out with a magnet?
I have one on a long flexible shaft you can burrow if you want to try it.

AJ, can you get the 13mm nut out with a magnet? I don't know I just kind of gave up after it went in. I guess I can remove the oil filter plate and just spin the engine on my stand until it falls out. I can always run the Bus engine as a spare until I figure something out.

No pictures yet. Funny thing is it seems to have lowered the front 3.25". Adjusters were welded onto the beam wrong. Car really needed the drop spindles to sit right. Now I need to lower the rear a little more....

Today I swaped starter motors. The one on the blue car was a new one, high speed type deal. Really cranked the motor over fast. I put it on the beige car. Starts much nicer now. Then as I was putting tools away my back 'went out' on me. Great.

How did the drop spindles work out? Did it get the car down where you wanted it? Where are you going to set the rear? I can't wait for pics. Yesterday I pulled the door panels out thinking I could heat up the vinyl and stretch it tight again, but no luck. They are in pretty bad shape and the board is breaking into pieces.

Drop spindles worked great. Had to change the inner bearings. FLAPS had them in stock. Not sure about the rear yet. I need to check the chart and decide how much more to try.
On my beige car I made new boards and glued the old vinyl to them. I used thin masonite board. If you want my old black ones you can have them to experiment with. Or, the basc black panels are usually cheapest to buy. Maybe see how cheap George can get them.
