Update on my progress

Hello everyone,

Just felt I needed to make a posting as I so much appreciate this sight and everyone that makes it so great, I have posted before and of course am a new memeber but certainly not new to the VW WORLD........I purchased a 1973 Super beetle this late fall and have great plans to restore it and enjoy it this coming summer , and thanks to my wonderful wife I feel this will all come together I HOPE, you see I have a "time table" due to the wonderful Health conditions I have aquired, again my wife knows the imprtance of this project to me at this time in my remaaining life........ I know I paid to much for this Super beetle but it was available and delivered to us and condition is saveable,,,,,Over the winter I have fremoved the motor and completely dissasembled it and measured and checked everything, I have the lower end back together now with new crank , new rods ,new camshaft ,new lifters , new oil pump , 2 new complete cylinder heads , and new 87 mm piston and cylinders, ( I would have it done if the weather was better !!!!!!) If I have the funds I would like to put a set of 34s or possible 40's on it, the new cam w100 mild cam, but if not will juct go with the stock induction...Not looking for anything wild , just something "cuz I would like to"
I also pulled the tranny and disasembled and checked it and it was found to be in good condition (thank goodness)
This spring and start of summer I will get started on the body work, has some rust of course and I will repair what I am physically able to do and then hopefully paint it......Interior needs BIG help, I have a new headliner to put in , thanks to Rudy (dubfreak1) I have a set of front seats for it as soon as weather permitts us to get over and pick them up, I have to figure out yet what I will do with the dash as it is totally in sad shape........
I am watching out for a set of stock, chrome 5 5 1/2 " wheels but have not been able to find any of those yet, may have to wild up wiith empi style 5 spoke in the end,,,,,,,
I do everything thaat I am able to do myself at this point in my life , but after a SEVERE stroke , I find myself very limited in some of my abilities now days !!!!!!!!!!!
Well I guess I have bored who ever should bother reading this and I appreciate all of your indugance to let me post this I just truly want to become one of the group and let you know a little bit more about my wife and myself.......Thank you all.......

Hey, We would like to do something like that VERY much !!!!!!! It would be fun having anybody that would like to come up and spend some seriuos GOOD time on our Farm and swap stories !!!!!!!!! We will seriously think about that, my wife and I would supply the food and drink for all..............................Steve

The car looks to be in pretty good shape. Nice progress! Why not start a thread in the 'Projects' area?

Thanks vdubdriver,,,,,Yes it is pretty good, couple of rough spots but overall I think it will be fine.........I will do a thread in the projects are for sure when I really get started on the body and interior, and I will start with some pictures of the completed motor when I get it all done hopefully in the next two weeks......Steve

Hey Steve & Linda,I will suggest a pair of Weber 40's for your warmed up 1641,I have them on two Daily Drivers and just LUV'em I get better mileage then the single one barrel carbs hands down!!!

Hi Mike, Yes I pretty much thought that was the best way to go, I will probably buy a set of these in the end , hopefulley be ready by the middle of next month........Steve

Thanks again Mike.......Ya , no real point in the single barrels , no gain to be found there,better off keeping my money!!!!!! Looking at the various kits avaiable, looks like around $500.00...........

I would get used and rebuild them ,$300 is about the going price, Get the CB Aluminum filters bases & Linkage ,Way better quality then the stamped out EMPI/Redline crap that won't stay insync

Mike,,,AH,,,good to know,,,,been a while since I have "added" dual carbs,,,,lots of changes over the years,,,,,,,Yes I keep an eye open all the time for a set of used IDF's,,,,watch the SAMBA quite a bit,,,,,hate to pay New price when I know there are good used sets available out there,,,,,,,I have time so will keep watching............
