Here is an email I received from Ed Karman, current president. Looks like the club will continue on for another year. Hopefully they will also have the Ypsilanti Vintage Show again this year. MVVC Members I am happy to report that we have a full slate of names to vote on December 6th for the 2009 MVVC Board. President John Deikis Vice President Rolf Schroeter Secretary Christine Jennette Treasurer Tim Adriaens In addition, the following people have agreed to these positions in the club, Counselor, Ed Karmann Event Coordinator's, Tom Siligato & Rolf Schroeter Board members at Large, Doug & Patrick McAbee Newsletter Editors, Karin Tosh & Erik Nagle Webmaster, Wayne Burling Technical Advisor, ?? On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Christine Jennette for taking the imitative to hold two meetings, in an (successful) attempt at forming a slate of candidates for the 2009 MVVC Board. Also, John Bickel has volunteered to do another Tech Session, and new members Randy & Shirley Hampshire have offered their working farm, (complete with a wood fired brick oven) as the site for the next campout. If there is anyone else interested in running for a position on the board, please email mvvc2009@hotmail.com or call 313-563-1564

I two hope they have the show. I think we all need to show our support and go as a group if they have the show.

Yes I really hope the Vintage Festival goes on. I always love going to that show and it would be a big loss for it to be gone. Bren, John, Kevin, Brian, My parents, And I went last year and it was a nice fun day. It would be cool to have more of our members go and show our support and that we are not afraid to drive and hope it spreads.

I agree. It would be terrible for that show to end and we need to support it. I plan to renew my mvvc membership. John Deikis is a great guy, works in Battle Creek and lives in Chelsea. And, he has a '67 beetle he is working on ;D. I will contact him sometime and introduce our club to him. Hopefully he can help generate some mvvc excitement for our west side activities.

It would really be beneficial for us to work together as we do with the MVWG.

If we could get a cross promotion thing going between us and them and all the other clubs for that matter it would be a step in the right direction. Hopefully the new president living in our area will help.

The MVVC is looking for feedback on their Vintage Festival. They are trying to line up a location and date for 2009. They hope to use the same location as last year but that might not work out. Do you have any suggestions for alternate locations? Also, they are looking at Sunday May 31 for the festival. What would you think about the event being on the same weekend as the Spring Bug Run? I have sent a link to this thread to John Deikis so let him know what you think....

Hey guys, how about Gilmores, Martin or Kalamazoo fair grounds? For an event? Their are all large enough and do other car related events throughout the year. Later Kenn

I am not too sure about the Vintage Festival being the day after the Bug Run I don't think it will be good for either show.

I agree, two show's in one weekend, alot of people would have to choose one or the other, and I think the Bug run would be my choice.

Hi guys-- and thanks, Bren, for starting this dialog.
The way the weekends work out in May and early June, MVVC had a choice of 2 and the members overwhelmingly preferred a May date. This was pretty much all that was available to us given availability of the park in Ypsi.
Realizing this would be the day right after the Bug Run, I figured maybe we could minimize the conflict by having the Saturday "driving event" of the Michigan Vintage VW Festival be a 2-laner cruise-in to 131 for Bug Run and then the Fest's show on Sunday. As of today, that's still the tentative plan. However, MVVC may not have the sponsor dollars this year to do the event in Ypsi-- the "extra costs" really mount up. So, I have proposed a scaled down Fest-- less money, fewer volunteers needed, etc.
If we should have the Fest's show at a different location, the date situation may open up a bit. I will bring it up at our board meeting this Friday (1/2). We need and want the support and participation of as many air cooled VW folks as possible and a date conflict is not particularly good planning on our part. I'll keep Bren and you guys posted as things develop.
As for places like the Gilmore, I've been in touch with them and it can't work this year but several MVVC members are excited about having the Fest there in 2010. The downside is that some Detroit metro people complained the Ypsi was too far west! I personally think the Gilmore would make it much more of a "Michigan" Vintage Festival.
More later-- John Deikis

I am not familiar with the Gilmore (I'm one of those metro Detroit people), but I thought the Ypsi location was great. The show in 2008 was my first, and I was impressed with the cars and the great people.
