Thank you to all that attended. We had a very good turnout. Room was nice and cozy. Good food as usual at Sam's Joint.
We had a good discussion about plans for 2013. Main theme of the meeting was how do we re-energize the club. 2012 was a slow activity year for the club. We would like to get back to previous levels of participation and fun. Primary thought was to set regular activities that would require little coordination and planning (keep it simple!). We discussed regular bi-monthly gtg's at a standard location. Good discussion came from this idea and it was concluded we would do the following annual events and these will be our gtg's: - Winter club trip to a musuem or other attraction with a meal afterwards. - Lansing Buggy Builders show, club and bug run promotion, gtg afterward at Bonnie's Place - Spring Bug Run, gtg afterward at Sam's Joint, Plainwell, MI - July Club Picnic. New event to be hosted by Robin and Mike at their place in Fennville, MI - Fall Bug Run, gtg afterward at Sam's Joint, Plainwell, MI - Goodvolks Color Tour; to be hosted by AJ - Christmas Party in early December, at Sam's Joint, Plainwell, MI
These items have been added to the 2013 VW events list in Blue. By going with these annual events they are easy to schedule and coordinate in advance. Eliminates trying to find someone to plan and schedule everything we do as a club.
We discussed getting back to attending other regional VW events in force. It is great fun to drive as a group to an event. Arriving together also let's 'them' know that TheGoodVolks are here. Set standard starting points as Flying J for going west and Battle Creek, Burger King for going east.
Bug Run. We will continue to claim this as our event. In the past we had volunteers come help host the event. We will further discuss doing this again. No compensation, just the goal of making things flow better the day of the event. Discussed making signs we can use at every bug run to help direct people and make them feel more welcome. DuneTV did a great job with the Bug Run Video. We are going to thank Brooks for the video with a GoodVolks hoodie sweatshirt. It was also suggested to use this video at the Lansing show to promote the Bug Run.
We discussed club shirts. Going to look into finding a shop that can have our logo available. We can then contact them and order a shirt, sweatshirt, etc. and have it shipped direct. Eliminates us coordinating funds for shirts. Club 'script' stickers. We have some left. We are going to make them free; donation accepted. We will work to buy in bulk at a cheap cost from donations received. Hopefully we will always have some available to hand out free. Club cards. We will work to have these more readily available. Maybe also have them on file someplace so everyone can simply go order their own to pass out.
Overall theme; get back to consistency and simplicity. Avoid spending lot's of time coordinating, scheduling, looking for volunteers to do the work etc. Spend more time enjoying our hobby with our friends.
