I thought even with all of the pinks people there it went really well. I didn't hear of any complaints.

I really enjoyed the event. The swap meet was excellent. I always enjoy looking for some old treasures with low cost. I really enjoyed seeing so many buses. I hope all venders will come back to the fall event.

After letting things sink in for a few days, here are my suggestions:
1. Push drags Two teams, each PUSHING a car down the track a given distance, first team across the line wins. You knew this already!
2. Stuff a Bug Do I have to explain this one too? I didn't think so.
3. engine pull Two teams, whichever pulls the engine out of a Bug the fastest, wins!!
4. engine blow (use a non vw) What it says, run WOT until she pops!
5. Live music I know a couple of good bands.
6. Valve cover races Similar to "Pinewood Derby" only, with VW valve covers
7. Clown(s)? For the kids, maybe face painting.
8. Autocross (Rudy, back me up!!!) Logistics? Maybe move the show cars to a grassy area.
9. Hot Wheels or model car show Kids only, or have an adult class also. Basically, build a model car, or modify a hot wheels, matchbox, corgi, johnny lightning, whatever, and have a "scale" car show. Trophies or plaques or ribbon or something for winner(s).
10. Discounted fees for early registration Mostly to get NEW parts vendors to attend, this one would obviously be up to 131 MSP to decide.
I know we are limited by what the track will allow, and also by expense. But, the autocross, for example, could actually generate revenue. Charge seperately to run the autocross course, maybe $20 to compete, or run all day, and $5 per run for "fun runs". Payouts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd best times, or by class. Maybe like a 50/50, where the club keeps half and pays out half. This could help fund things like the website.

All very good suggestions Patrick,
The discount for early registration won't really work if all they charge is a gate fee now. Its already so cheap they should be here!

I was told that 1 of the Good Old Boys got to the show a little late 1:15 pm or so and had a line of 8-10 cars @ the gate and not moving 15-20 min. he got mad turned around and left . I don't know I was not there , They may have been cars for Pinks . If we split a Race Day again maybe a sign 20 cars back saying VW car show pull up .

I was surprised at how slow the line was to get in,I was car number 6 in line and waited 15 minutes and this was at 10 am. I think the main holdup was because they were offering free tickets to another race and everyone that wanted it had to fill out a sheet with their name and address etc. Other than that I thought it was a nice show.

Jerry and I left after the judging and when we left there was a line of cars all the way to the highway. I also think that we need a sign but even better would be some volunteers who would be willing to walk the street and tell them to go in. I also agree with no clowns. I think patricks ideas are good. I like what the do with the bug that is all black and the kids draw in it with chalk. Maybe we could get a doner car and do that. I know that the local salvage yard has about 20 bug sitting in it and maybe we could get one with a salvage title and have it towed to the shows.

OK, so I am not the brightest when it comes to thinking the ideas through, duh. So, how about some other incentive for the vendors? Maybe a small spot on the flyer with early registration? Also, maybe this was done to an extent, but... drop flyers at the "local" VW shops, German Auto in GR, Gary's in Holland, etc. Their customers have the "right to know"! The auto trader also has a "coming events" section, not sure on cost though.

Are we sendinf info out other groups like Harsh Winters and clubs on the East side of the state. That would probably be a big help. I think this thing wil start to grow and be a good sized event within two years if we promote it right. We need to interface with other groups within reasonable driving disance. Let me know if I can do anything to help I can bring the balloon along and maybe do some tethers if the weather is right. - Brian
