I am confused. Why is the trolley hanging from 8 bolts? I would have thought it would have been on top of the barn beam or some combination of vertical or triangulation transferring the load. I guess as long as some sort of post with a footing is bolted under it.

Me three. Put the pulley beam on top of the other beams? Al tho by himself ? I can see why the beam is on the bottom.. How would you slide the beam and tilt it to get over on 1 end and then do that again on the other side... Your wife is right Rick about your sanity.... But we all know we would have done the same thing ;D... And Ray he started the elevator... Its the pulley system.. Thanks Dave T

The trolly and hoist is ONLY rated for 2000 lbs. The I- beam is on the underside so I can trolly the load into each side of the haymow a foot or so. I am going to use cable or chain to anchor the I-beam to the oak log on top of the wooden beam, so it will be sandwiched between the two.
