I like that Baja, You don't see the narrow eye kit with those headlights very often.

Dustin and anyone else thinking about the Baha in Three Rivers, I went to look at it and it isn't worth what he is asking. It does run,but had a crank with flywheel/crank dowels elongated, he changed it out with a crank and flywheel from a 1500 single port which is no big deal, but never check'd the end play or torque'd flywheel. He also replaced one rod with one from the 1500 single and didn't replace the bearing or put the riss pin keepers back in (their just floating) on that rod. I told him he was way, way over priced on the car even before he opened his mouth, about what had been done to the engine and that the motor was a grenade just waiting to blow. It has a split case trans and jumps out of 1st, 4th and reverse. rust nearly everywhere on the pan and frt end. The fiberglass is cracked all over and the body has more bondo then metal. Sorry but this may be not worth the gas to go see it. Glad I did it on the way home from hunt'n. Later Kenn

Normally I'd trust your judgment on VW's (you've probably had Beetles since I was in gradeschool), but we never started it, let alone drove it!! Why didn't you tell me all this when we were out in the garage looking it over? Granted, I learned my lesson on torquing the flywheel after chewing up crank #1. But, the current flywheel is torqued to specs. (217 ft-lbs). I took it to a mechanic friend who had the proper "jumbo" (SnapOn digital) torque wrench. Plus what ever gave you the idea I didn't use the wrist-pin keepers?? They are all in place I feel bad hearing all this, and I hope you are not representative of all the " GoodVolks" ps. what's a split case trans?? is this bad??

Actually Kenn is exactly what the Goodvolks is all about, willing to lend advice and a hand to anyone in need. He is a super nice guy and I'm sure what he said wasn't a personal attack. He is an out going person that isn't out to make any enemies. He was just calling it as he seen it, and I saw this car before you got it, and aside from what he said about the engine he wasn't far off. I'm sure Kenn doesn't need me to fight his battles, but everyone on this site will agree.

As Jerry said, Kenn is a really great guy. We look out for each other around here and thats what he was doing. I'm sure no harm was meant by it. Please don't hold that against us.

Kenn actually helped me to get to know everyone in this club. I was just a stray poster on the forum waiting to finish my Ghia. Kenn asked me if I would join him to the Fort Wayne VW show. He is a great guy but we all make mistakes.
By the pictures you have the potential for a great looking Baja. Personally I think you should keep it and make it your own. We have a group of some individuals that love to help lend hands. I am one of them. I excel with 12 volt wiring and am very mechanically minded. We have other individuals that are excellent with other steps in the restoration process.
Just to let you know a split case trans has a non syncro first gear. I believe the last year of it was 1960. Personally I don't know much about them because I like 68-73 Volkswagens.

Interesting that it is $950 on craigslist, $1000 on here. Just an observation.

Yes, Kenn is a great person. Willing to help anyone. Goes way out of his way to do anything and everything for this club. I know he only means well and no harm to anyone. Like Dustin said above, we all look out for each other here. We try to help each other make informed decisions about purchases. I'm sure this is all this is about.

I really like this one. It is a Michigan car. Very nicely done. You can see more of it on dubrod.com.

Yes I do like that one as well. I remember seeing it at the Ypsi show a few years ago.
