I didn't get a title with this van, so until I get one I don't plan on doing too much with it. I think this van is very solid and worth saving. I might need to get one of you MI guys to help me out with getting a title, if Ohio is too big of PITA. I'm pretty sure the van is/was titled in IND.

This is what I did before to get a MI title for a bug: I claim no expert knowledge and have no liability if this course of action is followed with a negative result: My old 66 red/white/blue beetle had a lost title. I said screw all the Ohio BS and sold it to a friend in Michigan with a bill of sale. I then found the links shared on the MI SOS website and my buddy filled them out in MS Word. He filled out the ownership form that is link #1, they ran the VIN and it came back clean. Then they told him to fill out a certificate of title application, link #2. He had filled it out mostly beforehand and then just filled in the blanks. He left the plate part blank and told them he didn't want to get license plates until he was done working in it. A week later a title arrived in the mail at his house. www.michigan.gov/documents/tr-205_16198_7.pdfwww.michigan.gov/documents/tr-11L_16050_7.pdfWhen I was in the SOS (DMV here) with him, two brothers in their 40s were "selling/transferring" a "parts" motorcycle between each other that didn't have a title and applying for one at the same time with similar documents. Jonce told me once that you could get a title with a VIN on a thingytail napkin in Michigan. Anyway, that's my take on the whole way to get around the Ohio titling BS.

Does anybody know if you have to be a Mi resident, or can an out-of- stater can do it? I don't live far from the state line and not far from Hillsdale Mi, that is where I got my plates for the one wheel trailer.

Well I finally got off my butt and did some offical checking. Found out that by going through a lawyer I could get an Ohio title. They get a police report and do a little legal brief and take to a judge. When the judge signs the order I take it DMV and they make me an Ohio title. I only have about 1/2 hour time invested and $250. He said I SHOULD see the order this week or next at latest. The police has already came back CLEAN. Hopefully another VW saved from the crusher. ;D ;D ;D ;D
