Hey everybody:
This map is cool, but has very little actual use, and can be dangerous to use.
It's kind of cool, but since there is no password, everybody can use it, and everybody can see it. Do you really want your personalized information...where you are...what you have...email addresses, etc. out there for folks to see?
If you use this, please don't put personal information up on it. It's a bad idea. It's that simple. This is like posting your travel schedule to everybody you know (and many you don't). Not a good idea. I work with companies all over the world, and part of what I do is to work with them regarding social media and such. I would not recommend this for anything other than your name and your city...and your name and city would be iffy...
As a tool for members, this is not what I had in mind. I would like a list of people's phone numbers or cell phone numbers to use in case of problem on the road. The BMW Motorcycle list of members provided a list of peoples phone numbers, if they would be willing to help you, and if they were willing to help you, what they might be able to provide. For some, it was calling a local service to help. For others, they had very complete personal repair facilities. It was useful, and a real godsend when you traveled.
Something like that would be great for the GoodVolks.
You would PM a list out, and NOT have it out there for non GoodVolks folks to look over.
I still would like a list of GoodVolks members who would not mind sharing their phone number if I need help somewhere. The map thing is cool if you have internet service everywhere, but I can tell you that if you rely on things like Google Maps, and you are somewhere where you don't have internet service, you're out of luck...or if your internet service is down (and remember, I'm in Bugtussle, where power outages, cable television and phone outages, and internet outages are not just an adventure, they're a way of life...) you are out of luck.
If anyone is interested in this, chime in.

We're now part of the GV map. It's amazing what you can do from 3700 miles away.

I am on the map, now. It took quite a while to find the link in this thread. It might be easier/ more interest if the link was at the beginning.

Dave,
Thanks for your comments & feedback. I'm not an internet safety guru, and leery of info that is available to the public. This being said; its important for everyone to know this voluntary, and if someone chooses to plot themselves on the map, they can choose to enter as little or as much info as they'd like. Considering the GV member call names are public; maybe having just that on the map (for some) would be acceptable to them.
Thanks again, Ray

Please note: you can access the link now from the first page of this thread. Hopefully we'll get this moved to the home page soon for better access.
