5th ANNUAL SPRING BUG RUN RESULTS

Beautiful,clear skies were a welcomed sight on May 6 for the exclusive VW 5th Annual Bug Run event. US 131 MSP was pleased to host the NCVWDRA, North Coast VW Drag Racing Association to its race along with addition to the car show and swap meet there was something for every VW fan.
With 5 rounds of racing in a combined Pro/Super Pro class it came down the Twigg Harris of Granger, IN in is 1964 Karmann Ghia defeating Rick Staib of Battle Creek, MI in his 1965 VW Beetle. Both drivers had an identical reaction time of .1051 and the winner was going to be determined by who ran closest to his dial-in. Staib had dialed a 8.50 and ran a 8.6775, Twigg dialed a 6.82 and ran a 6.9097, this gave Twigg a margin of victory of .07 seconds.
In the street class finals it was Dustin Fisher of Fennville, MI driving his 1974 Super Beetle defeating Ron Easton of Niles, MI driving his 1964 Beetle. Easton ran under his dial for the race giving the win to Fisher who ran two-tenths of second safe.
The Spring Bug Run also included a very nice display of car shows with the following entries taking top 10 awards Jeremy Sturgeon of Zeeland, MI, Kevin Lapenna of Galesburg, MI, Bill Chapple of Marshall, MI, John Street of Niles, MI, Terry Frend of Granger, IN, Mike Bultje of Byron Center, MI, Rick and Cindy Hughnet of Edon, OH, Barb & Jim Weiderman of Sturgis, MI, and Chuck van Portfliet of Cedar Springs, MI and Tim Boerema of Dorr, MI, taking the People's Choice award in addition to the Top 10 distinction.
