Wyominhigby (aka Dave)- would like to plan on being there for this event. It will be my first gtg with any club members. Sounds like fun. What time do you want people to be there?

It will be best to be there by 8:00 AM. Access to the pits and access to the island is affected by race traffic. There MAY be opportunities to cross the track to get to the pitside between races, but access to the island will be limited by racecars staging in the false grid, so early is better.
Glad there is getting to be some interest in this event. This is kinda of an unusual venue for us, but should be great fun.

Wait? A GoodVolks event on a weekend I actually have some time free?
I'm going to do my best to be there! I'm hoping the weather holds, if the forecast is horrible I probably won't come. So, if we are there by 8:00 does that give us plenty of flexibility for getting onto the island? Or is that the beginning of activities? Also, when on the island (which looks like a great place to watch the race from), I'm assuming there won't be facilities, food, drink etc. available? So we should plan for that? Or are there usually downtime between heats so that we can get over and back?

The island is not very accessible by car when the racing is going on, but it is no problem to come and go on foot. It is not that far to walk to the concession area from the island and they have restrooms there too. If there is room elsewhere, we might get a different spot, but won't know that until Saturday. There are many good viewing spots that can be walked to and I would expect most people will want to walk to different spots during the day. The one thing we all need to be aware of is that we can't just come and go as we like with our cars. There are only set times when we can move them. Just walking through the pits is an experience in itself. I'll bet that nobody will know what all the cars are. Some really obscure brands show up for these races.
The whole idea of a car corral is just to park there and then go and do your own thing. If that is staying in one spot and talking with friends, that's great. If it watching the races that is good too. I personally will be a corner worker, so I'll only be around the corral during the lunch break. I guess the point is this is about as far from a formal meeting as we can get, but it should be great fun for all.
According to the weatherman this morning it is supposed to be upper 70's, low humidity and sunny on Sunday. Hope he is right!

I'm having a bad week here. Took Dorothy's Miata out to wash the engine, etc. Went to a client's house for an hour or so in Holt, MI, in a nice neighborhood. Came out, and someone had hit the back bumper! It's going to require a new bumper cover and tail light. Looks like someone backed out of the driveway right across the street and into the car. It's probably the only explanation, but nobody knows anything. "Wasn't us." To atone for this, I'm staying home when Dorothy returns from Blue Lake... I'm out, but REALLY wanted to see this! Dave Riedle P.S. It's a six speed gearbox, and there are too many d**ned gears!

I'll probably be rolling in around 8:30, hopefully I can still join the island group. Is there going to be any club merchandise for sale? I'd be interested in a club logo tee shirt (XL). See y'all there.

Well, it looks like I might end up working after all. It's still up in the air though. I may end up bringing another car and just parking in the regular parking lot though, as I may have to leave early and head to clients anyway.

Absolutely perfect weather for racing. I really enjoyed the entire event, especially the hot laps a noon. There was a 5 time champion that didn't have such a good time. He was driving a Porche Speedster and didn't make the first turn after the long straight, he backed the Speedster into the safety tires next to a large willow tree. Luckily neither person was hurt, only the drivers pride and his speedster.
I was expecting a large crowd on the island this morning, so I got up at 4:30 AM and headed north. I didn't want to miss-out on being on the island. Well, getting there at 8:30 AM I had to struggle to get a place on the island.....along with the other 2 cars out there !!!!!!!!!!!!
Those who didn't make it sure missed a wonderful time. Thanks for setting up this great event, Bob

Thanks to Rudy for setting this up, and everyone that could make it (Bob, 74 Beetle, Rudy, 72 Beetle, Mike & Dustin in the Splash Bug, my 67 & a 66 or 67 (1300) that we didn't see the owner or recognized the car. I was there Saturday & Sunday learning & helping on the corners. Saturday ended early due to the weather, but Sunday was perfect. I didn't have time to take pics on the island, but here's one from Corner 7.

I'm grateful tho everyone who came and hope it was an enjoyable day for all of you. It was great to see Stan Fisk there, especially sporting a GoodVolks Tee shirt. Stan was my VW partsman back in the 70's and probably still knows every VW part number by heart. Sorry we didn't get a chance to meet everybody that was there. Thanks again to all for coming.
The best race looked like the FV race to me, but that may be a little bias at work!

It was great to come out and see a few of you again! Sorry I couldn't be there with the beetle all day as I had planned, but work intruded it's ugly head. Still, I had a great time watching all the beautiful vintage cars. They need a "beetle" class at these things
