Anybody got a trick for returning a dirty carburetor back to it's original shiny grey color. Lots of nooks and crannys to clean.
These things made of aluminum or magnesium? Can they be painted or dipped in something to get em clean on the surface?

I think I made a mistake by trying to polish the surface. I degreased and washed my throttle body and then used steel wool on it. Originally it was all discolored but discolored somewhate evenly. Now its shiny in spots and discolored in others. It looks much worse.
Every thing I've been able to read says glass bead blasting is the only way to get a uniform color back on it. Supposedly there is a chemical way to "reskin" it but nobody describes that and would be a professional shop thing anyway.
It's sure not like other plated materials you can dip or metals you can paint.
Lesson learned. Some day would love to have my own blasting cabinet. I'll add that to the list...

After hours of google searches and research on various surface blasting techniques I found this on all places "aircooledtech.net". This is freakin genius if you have a suitable compressor. For the cost of some vinyl hose, a wand and soda this appears to work great. www.aircooledtech.com/tools-on-the-cheap/soda_blaster/

Just go to Harbor Freight and pick up a Spot Blaster. It is all self contained with a hopper on top. Just fill it with baking soda and use it as is. If you have an air compressor and $12 you are all set.
