I was in Harbour Freight today getting a new magnetic base for my dial indicator and a led strip lights I am going to try to make into a 3rd brake light. (Thanks for the tip John!) While in there I saw some gauges on sale, $19.99 each. www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=98480They have the following: Oil pressure Oil temp. voltmeter tachometer water temp (who needs that ) All are 2" LED which would be nice for hiding under the dash. They all have the sending units and all were electronic, not mechanical. So, what I am wondering is will these work with our VW's? Volt and tach should be easy but I am unsure about the oil temp and pressure. Sale ends 10/27. Anyone in the know have time to check this out?

I think we can come up with a mount for these. Actually, they include a mount but I am not sure it is what we would want to use.

Who is going to do all of the wiring for all of your fancy stuff. You may have more electrical goodies then I do.
I have a set of VDO gauges for the Ghia but no sending units not quite sure which ones I need. I may even have them.

I seen these a couple months ago, do they have a white face. I know when I seen them this summer and they were $20.

Yes, they have a white face. They are also LED and the color of the LED can be changed on them. I think most things at Harbour Freight go on sale pretty regularly.
AJ: you are the wiring guru! Want to come install some gauges?

AJ. Did an outstanding job figuring the problem with Ruffuss's gas gauge. He'll be the one I call on for further electrical hook-ups(besides I now have a lamenated wiring diagram) thanks again AJ. later Kenn

Thanks for the praise Kenn I try.
Well Bren I did sign your glove box door, time for me to earn my keep. Just tell me where and when and let me work my magic. So if I remember correctly you want a Cigarette Lighter Plug, Stereo System, Warning Buzzer, and Electrical Gauges. Looks like I need to run a new separate wiring harness and fuse box like I did in the Ghia to power more equipment.
Who wired your stereo in the other Beetle?

Beige beetle stereo was done at best buy. I want gauges and light warning buzzer for the beige car. Stereo, 12volt outlet, and light buzzer for the blue car. Will probably use the berg dipstick in the blue car and not put gauges in that car. Thoughts?

I will have to think on the warning buzzer may need to run it through a relay so I do not disrupt the existing circuit. Have you seen these before for gauge mounting.

Wow, that is cheap. I will have to go get mine laminated. I like the underdash idea. If I did the indash I would need one with 3 2" holes on the left. Right side has a gas gauge. I would have to make sure I could still see my stereo with them under the dash.
