I just thought I would share with you, I ran into a guy that has 3 complete VW engines in his garage. All are original, I have no idea of the year or condition of any of them. I just thought I would post since I was excited to get 3 free engines. YAY

Chris, do you have room for all of them? If you don't, I could find a place for one of them in my garage. What size are they and what kind of shape are they in?

Im dont know any info, but I do know at least 2 of them are complete. Something that I do know about vw engines, is that if they turn over, you can get em to run. If they dont? well I guess ill figure it out when I get to it

Sweet. Even if they didn't run I would love to have one just to take it apart and put back together as is. What a great learning tool. Beats experimenting on your perfectly good one. Congratulations.
My father-n-law once showed me a "complete" karman ghia in his garage someone gave him in trade for chiropractic work. It was completely disassembled. Everything sitting on a rolling chassis.

even if they're "froze up" they still might be decent. I had one that I pored wd 40 in the spark plug holes for about a week. Finally bolted a huge bar on the flywheel and worked it back and forth(not real good thing to do, but) ended up running that motor in a buggy for over a year and sold it...and there's nothing wrong with a single port, single relief, in fact, they're less likely to need line boring as the smaller carbs made for less rpms. At the very least, that mag case is worth a lot as scrap. Pick them up, someone will use them. Write the engine #s(usually at the base of the generator stand..look them up. Good find. If you ever want to hear a story, ask me about the motor my dad bought at a garage sale...sold it for $4 g. Pulled the vintage aluminum valve covers off to see the words Okrasa...almost passed out.

yah, wow is right. this was a long block with intakes, plus it had the large okrasa crank and aluminum finned steel sleeved cylinders. It was a vintage hopped up okrasa. The motor in pristine condition would have been worth 6-10g. And the dude was going to ou the motor in is dune buggy..wow, again. It had cracks in the heads but a lot of guys will spend the $$$ get them fixed and no one is the wiser. A guy in tenn. bought it to put in his very early low light ghia convertible. That ought to make quite a gold mine combination.

I saw a guy at silver lake that had a judson setup on a buggy. I had to stop him and ask him if he actually knew what he had. He didn't quite realize that what he had could command top dollar. I suggested to stop running it and go find another engine. Saw him the next day still running it. I think a little part inside of me died.

That guy is dumb, Take that motor and sell it then use the money to buy a nice performance motor for the buggy
