I want to give you all an update on George. (George Haineault of George's Hot VW's fame.)
Some of you may know that George is a Lukemia patient. Before I knew George he had Lukemia and was treated for it and was in remission. Recently it was discovered that his Lukemia had come back. It was recommended that George have a bone marrow transplant. George has received chemo treatments to keep the Lukemia in check until the transplant. The best donors are your immediate family. Fortunately, George's son, Travis was a very good match and agreed without hesitation to donate.
Fast forward to today, Tuesday Jan. 11th. Today George checked in at "the big house", UofM hospital, for the transplant. It is a long process. Chemo and radiation first, then the transplant on the 18th. Total hospital time is to be 3-4 weeks.
For those of you that know George the worst part of this is being "in jail" for 4 weeks. He is in good spirits and has a good sense of humor. Monday he had a second medication port put in, now he says he is a "dual port".
George's wife, Debbie, and other family, are maintaining a web site to share info about George's treatment. This is a very nice tool. Makes it easier for family to share info and not be bombarded with questions etc. Debbie said it would be OK to share this web site with the club. So, if you would like to keep up with how George is doing you can do so here: www.caringbridge.org/visit/georgehaineault
As a personal note. I have gotten to know George over the past few years. He has become a very good friend. He is very helpful and overall a very good guy. It is not easy to see a friend go through this. I pray for him and his family daily, I hope you will do so also.
I am very pleased that our club chose the Lukemia and Lymphoma society as it's charity. It is a very fitting choice.
