What happened to Bren? I think what AJ means is have your wife fall in love with a nice bus like AJ's. Then when she says something like 'we should get a bus and go camping in it' you go out and buy one. I was fortunate that this all happened without any manipulation on my part. Marie sat in AJ's bus at the bug run and really liked it. The rest is history.

Ive found out that a type 1 motor fits right into a 72 and later bus no problem but needs different tins. My new super trans would have to be sold. Did you know that overseas they used the type 1 standup motor into the type 2 till 79!!?? Anyway I may just stick with the bug. I would one day like a bus however. Cant really have both. what happened to Bren? There are some modifications that need to be done first. You mentioned the tins here they are. www.creativecarcraft.com/notforbug.htmYou also need to make some sort of hanger for the rear of the engine for support because the mounts for the transmission are not beefy enough. The input shaft of the transmission will need to shaved by 5/16" If the bus is a 1974 or newer the transmission gear ratios will be off if a stock engine is used. If the bus originally had fuel injection the fuel tank will need to be modified or switched out with an earlier bus. A 1971 bus intake manifold will need to be used so the vacuum power brake booster will work correctly or the original one will need to be modified. Chances are that if you have driven the bus with a type 4 motor you will not be happy with the smaller engine unless you go bigger than stock.

I think you would be better off to buy a running bus than trying to put your type 1 in it. Plus, you would get more cash if you sold your bug with the motor.
Or, if you want a little more room than a bug, get a Thing. They are wider and 4-door. Plus it will take your type 1 motor and it weighs about the same as a bug.

20'ish mpg for a bus is ok. Plus his is modified I think its a 1776 right? A "Thing" is cool and all but are hard to find, expensive and less usable then a bus. As for leaving the 2276 in Ally Im not sure I could get even close to the money I have into the motor by selling it. Id rather repurpose it. Im thinking even with the extra blubber my 2276 aught to pull a bus along nicely (heck a type 4 is ONLY a 2.0ltr, mines a 2.2). After all the extra stuff That I didnt know about that needs to be modified I may try to focus on a 71 or older. Or I may do..... nothing

Well we shall see. I'm in negotiations with a memeber for his 69 westy. If I sell Ally I'll probably have to let the new trans go with her but other than that I'll take the engine (will install either the 40hp single port or a 1600 dual I have laying around/ stereo/ wheels and basically covert her to a mild mannered street bug Anyone looking for a sweet 66 sunroof mind you nothing is a done deal yet but if it goes down get in your bid early

They are a brick I'm thinking I may have to let the new trans go with the car... Got my parts in today so I aught to be tearing into the motor soon. This time I see myself running it out of the car to confirm that the leak is gone.

Well the final "con" chimed in and it's a biggie! The wife and I had a long talk on the subject and she put her foot down with a big NO... She doesn't like the look of the VW van and kmows how much time an money went into Ally so she kinda wigged out on the subject. So... I guess I'll focus on a new headliner for Ally as well as maybe a takeoff rear valance panel to aid with pulling the motor. Is a freaking shame as I was all set to pick up the bus this weekend! I will probably still get one ....one day...
