The manx clone I had also was messed up. I guess the left side is supposed to be ahead of the right side but not by very much. I got them within an inch and Im ok with that. I feel it must have been this way before but never noticed. Took Ally out for the first spin of 2013. The air ride in the front rides fine (thank goodness) and it is entertaining how low you can drive it The engine has a pushrod or rocker making noise so I need to pop the right valve cover and investigate. Ran real nice though. Cant wait to put her back into regular service. Will play this weekend. 6000 rpm limiter works great as long as there is not a horror show in the right bank (makes an odd noise that I think ive dealt with once before it sound like an intermittent scrhich noise) I should be just in cleanup mode.

Got the engine pretty sorted with a small rocker arm shim issue that Ill take care of soon enough. Alignment issues have been the latest annoyance. Ill update ya'll with the end results. We got the rear done right at Munks but when that was done the front was f'd so I had my guys havr another go at the front. Its better but still not right and the strg wheel is off again! And now I have gained a fuel leak to track down. I need to get Ally's sht together for a cone race this Sunday. She no doubt will fight me the whole way!

Test drove yesterday and found that the lower pulley had become loose, so I blue lock tightened it and that should end that issue. After hot had a strange idle issue Ill get into. Still need to fix the rocker. If determined that the front beam is moving around. Ill look into a solution to that later on today.

Went cone racing and despite the steering feeling like a semi everything worked well and had a great time. Then on the way home I noticed at 55 and up if I let off the gas that the car started to sway like crazy and felt very uncomfy at speed!!! Not cool!!! This was last Sunday....
Today
Well Ally is kinda fixed! I had a feeling that the monster sway at speed was from the rear suspension. I thought it may have been related to a recent rear alignment I had. I was wrong. It was the spindle bolts for the rear axle. Both sides loose! Even though I know I tightened them in October. And even though they have castle nuts and a cotter pin. No Idea how they got loose but they indeed were. So tightened the poo outa them and test drove and smooth as silk up to 90mph (woulda gone to 100 just for spite but it was dark out), So still not real happy with the steering feel but its fine for driving this weekend. Just has a weird dead spot in the middle. Still think the shims need replacing and will still do that later when they come in and then will realign for the 4th time this year so my strg wheel is strait again (thingyed to the left just a skoshe). Overall, engine sounds and feels great but is running a tad lean at idle and rich on full throttle, so that when I shut her down she made a cool backfire that probably scared my family. SOOoo Sunday is on!!

Great stuff Aaron, Thanks for posting. In other news....
Well figured out why I lost all idle Sunday. The left intake was only held on by one very loose bolt!!! Yowsa! Glad I made it back home without blowing stuff up. I had an eye on the fuel ratio gage and noted at idle It was WAY lean. Well I woulda had it all together and done tonight If while cleaning out the carbs (I was there so why not) I shot one of the idle jets across the garage. Spent the next 1.5 hours on my hands and knee's looking for It and I did get to sweep up a bit which is a good thing, but it is lost to the Weber carb gods. Ordered another jet for 6 bucks and will arrive hopefully before the weekend....

Ok an update. Got the new jet and reinstalled everything and all was peachy. Decided to install a 15 gallon tank to extend the range a bit and MAM had a smoking deal on one for 130.oo or so, I had to buy it and I did. Next I was playing with the Timing. Why? Well I love to play with the thing that's why. Anyway noticed something odd. When at full advance, the engine had power all over and the fuel ratio gage reads full rich almost all the time and I average 17mpg. At full retard I noticed that the engine was running much leaner and the thing averages like 25mpg of course the power goes down to almost nada but who cares with the gas mileage. Got me to thinking what if I could control all this stuff right from the comfort of my recaro's Hmmmmmmm Well a visit to jegs got me this. www.jegs.com/i/MSD+Ignition/121/8680/10002/-1Im installing it now and am looking forward to the fun. In the gas tank I also changed the fuel outlet to 3/8's to match the rest of the fuel system. I love fooling around with Ally!

Liken both the bigger fuel outlet (quieted the fuel pump a smidge) and the timing dial is the nutz. You can tune on the fly!

Well, an update. I went to the Air cooled show at Gilmore (fun!) and the owl screech thing was still on and off, mostly at idle. Anyway 2 hour drive and no issues other than the engine seemed to be 5 degrees hotter than usual.... hmmmm. So when I got to the show and after Ally cooled off I started to poke around as I like to do and found that the band of metal that holds the alternator down was broken and just hanging!!! So all that was holding the alt/fan assy in place was the 4 bolts to the fan shroud!!!!! AACK! So on the way home from the show I stopped at a hardware store and picked up 2 dryer hose clamps, put them both on and bivwacked home. I checked the alt after the uneventfull drive and found one of the hose clamps had broken but one stayed in place. Shwoo... SO ordered a new clamp and will await its arrival. Just another day.

New alt clamp installed. Also recalibrated the gas gage as the new 15 gallon tank is a tad bigger than the old one. So empty was really a half tank. Waited till it was at empty and bent the fuel sender arm. Now is accurate.
