Ok as a jurnal to myself. Im going to state that one of the pins was actually broken (not sure if this was a cause or an effect of the loose flywheel) anyway Ive been working on getting the rest of the broken pin out for like 3 days now. 8 drill bits and lots of cursing later Its almost out. The interesting thing is the pin is like a hardened chrome case that is not drillable but filled with a still ultra hard but drillable center. So while Im at the end of it Im still struggeling to get out the case of the slug... Im going to try to freeze it with this spray a buddy has to see if that will work.

I have the torque miester and I am torqueing it as far as I can this time. I used a torque wrench last time and did the math and I think that got me into trouble. Im just going to torq it till it dont move. And Im using a good amount of lock tight this time. I almost have the bad pin totally out. I will put in a new pin and ignore the other 7 as they are in there so good I can say they aint comming out and they aint breaking (at least I cant break them!). Then Im popping the heads and removing the upper copper spacers and then zipping it all back together.

Well the copper spacers are gone and the valves readjusted for the difference. To commemorate the new compression I have painted the cylinder tins and valve covers blood red!! I now Deem thee Ally RS !!!! Of course now everything will need to be readjusted! at least I now have the o2 sensor (air/fuel) meter to help this time. Still have a bunch to do and am waiting on a rear main seal then Its just a matter of buttoning it up and installing the new fuel regulator and gage... Uph what a lot of work.

Well as you can see Im almost back together. Im expecting to start it on Saturday. You can see the broken pin but the picture of the pins on the crank are after the repair. Can you tell which pin is new? Got a new hurst shifter, Its much better than the old T handle.

Dan:
I like the shifter! T-handles are just plain dumb for shifting...much slower to use than shift ball. Looks like yours can be used just from the top too.
Best shifters I have used have been polished alloy balls or black plastic balls. The race cars used little egg shaped shifters that were fantastic, but very tiny. If your trans was balky, it was a real bear.
The Pig of Plastic used a T-handle, and would get rid of it in a second if I could.

Ally is again among the living. Runs much smoother with the fancy flywheel. The higher compression does not seem to be changing anything. We shall see when I get around to road testing her.

Im going to rewire Ally from the original 6 fuse bus that was originally set up for 6 volts and no accessories (from 1966) to a 12 volt, 12 bus monster that is set up for a boat (ie water resistant) has a nice cover and should clean up the underhood mess of wires nicely. Its amazing the thing has not set ablaze allready Also replacing an intermittantly failing ign switch and light switch that are both fried (have parts and meant to do it months ago.....but....) I really am bummed about loosing my cool ass 6o's key, but Im serious the thing is fried and the plastic backing is all burnt and loose and I really almost didnt make it home last night and had to turn the ign on and off to keep the poor dear running. I almost stopped in the middle of bombed out flint to tape the ign wires together to get home. here is what I got cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220780318272&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Oh and on full accel I noticed that there is a tad of pinging. I put some 104 fuel additive and no change. I need to retard the timing a tad. Runs real strong though. The clutch has a tad of slip on full on boogy drag race launch so I may adjust that a but. Would not have noticed it if I had not gotten stupid with it. Its all testing ya know.
