The German show idea came from the Michiana club. They had a German show at a dealer in Indiana. That show ended due to lack of club participation. This German Gathering was supposed to be a joint show with Michiana. It is now only us for the most part. In fact only one michiana club member showed this year.
If the German show is to grow we need to reach out to other German car clubs. Did anyone do that beyond Kenn? My guess is no.
The color tour also started out as a joint event with Michiana. In fact the first one we did was theirs that we crashed. From there came the idea to take turns running it. Now AJ runs it.
The Charity show is a great show. I really like the format. To raise funds, the raffle is great. Who helped Glen with the raffle this year? (I know I didn't.) Who is thinking now about getting items donated for next years raffle? We probably should be.
When I say I feel we are getting spread too thin I am thinking about the work involved in making our shows/events a success. (I am not talking about our show schedule.) There are so many things to be done to prepare for and promote events. Contacting other clubs, getting raffle items donated, getting show dates/info to Hot VW's, getting fliers to local VW businesses, setting dates and times, etc, etc, etc. (and then I think about coordinating montly gtg's, coordinating trips to shows, club calendar, club merchandise, Lansing show for club and event promoting. Add these things to the list and we have lots to do as a club.)
To make shows a success we need lots of club members to help all year long. If we lean too heavily on a few club members to make these shows happen we will burn them out. Who will then step up and take over? It will be a hard sell I am afraid because who really wants to step in and do a whole show by themselves?
I like the idea of VW's representing at Gilmore. Gilmore is a great location/facility. Two places we can do that without having our own show is at their new aircooled show and at the Red Barn Spectacular. Gilmore treats us real nice at the Red Barn S. by allocating a space just for us.
PS: Dave, I bet you would like the Bug Run much more in the drivers seat blasting down the track.
