Well this was the weekend in a nutshell. Arrived at the hotel at 11am. Made them give me another room as the first one smelled like bad mold. Second one was good. Then washed Ally and then hit the pool. By then Bren and Rudy (and wive's) showed up and we had a very pleasent Dinner. Patrick and friend did not show up till much later and we did not see him till Saturday. Saturday we went to Larry's shop for the opening 15% off sale and hoping to have a small show in his parking lot. It was a VERY small Store in the middle of a suburb and no show was to be (except us of course ). We decided to go to a very large farmers market for some junk shopping and I got a nice vise grip and an electric scooter for 40.00. We did a MCD lunch and went back to the hotel to chill for a bit. Then we went to the Larry's sponsered cookout at the track. It was pleasent and we got to see the racers, again it was kinda a small gathering (hmmmmmmmmm). Ok Sunday the big day. It had rained pretty hard overnight but the morning was awsome weather (High expectations). Reality set in when we arrived. The races were cancelled as the track was under water. Oh well. We went into the facility and parked. Next thing we know a show breaks out... VW's started pouring in like crazy. It was a fun show and there was no entry fee. Larry's also sponsered lunch with another cookout. The swap meet part was dismal, not many and not much. Still there is a lot of vw turnout and Ill post the million pics as soon as I get the time tonight. Overall its really a 1 day event (sunday). Im sure with the racing it would have been an awsome event but frankly next year Im doing MAM as I would prefer to have a 3 day event if Im going to do all that driving (5 hrs). This would be a arive sat night then leave sunday kinda thing. Heck if you could swing it it would be a sunday drive fest and do it all in one day. Overall I still had fun but not enough to justify my expenses for the weekend. I spent like 100.00 in gas and around 80.00 in room, and then another 50.00 for food. Still its always an adventure. Ally was on her best behavior and only showed some oil leakage at the rear main (I knew of allready) that is starting to effect the clutch. Ill rip it back out near the end of the month to fix. Ill post the pics I took (there are many) as soon as I can (hopefully tonight).

Like Dan said, it was a good time, but not what we had hoped for. Larry did make the best of a bad situation and I was able to score a couple of things at the impromptu swap.
A big THANK YOU! to Patrick for hauling the wheel and tire home for me. It would have been a little cramped in the Smart if we had to carry it.
I will go back someday.

I agree it was a good time but not a great time. I feel it would have been had the racing happened. The Knights Inn was not nice and that did not help either. Definitely not worth going 2 nights. Saturday morning was slow. You would have to buy lots at 15% off to justify the hotel for a 2nd night. Saturday night meet and greet was nice but small. Larry did say that normally there are 200+ people there. Attendance was much lower but there was lots of rain just before. (we know how rain kills attendance) Larry did a nice job dealing with the rain out. He went and got the food left from Saturday and fired up the grills and fed everyone free. No admission charged. Nice informal gathering of VW's of all types and some swap. Rudy and I passed out fliers to drum up business for our events. Based on the attendance Sunday for a cancelled show/race I feel this would be a nice sized show/swap/race. Larry has been doing this for years so he must be doing it right. He told us it costs him around $8000 to rent the track and make the payout. I am sure he would stop doing this event if he could not cover his costs each year. (We are very fortunate to have US131 be out major partner for the Bug Run's. Without them we could not afford to do it!)
I plan to go again. Go down Saturday, spend one night. Go to the show Sunday and come home.

Wish I could have went. I just sat home and worked on my VW. I couldn't make it down without brakes. All the pics being posted sure does ease the pain of not going. I will be at the next one.
