Building a Trike

I have had the honor to meet two people this past week from two different towns but both have common in tresses & issues .

Both would like to ride and own VW trikes . Both have handicaps that will require custom builds . One has a unit started and needs to complete and the other is starting from 0 .

The unit starting from 0 will need an Auto-Trans due to he only has one good arm & leg one weak leg .

The other guy was real cool to talk to and we only got started talking about VW's . He is a double amputee and has a unit already and I don't know what it needs but he now has a club card & I'm going to offer my help .

So we are going to start learning the do's & don't on trike building , get a list of parts with $$$ and see what happens .

glen, i have most of a type III auto, needs torque converter, and wierd oil pump. more than happy to give.

This Good old Boy is looking to ride and the Harley Trike with an Auto-Trans N/A , so we offered the idea of a VW Trike with Auto tranny , single bar coming back from the front end for control , and maybe gas & brake on one side pending on how strong his other leg is .
This was just one conversation and we need to sit down & find out what in his minds eye he want to see . I'm not going to build any frames @ this time . I'll rework one is needed .
At this point not knowing if it will be Fiberglass bodied or Harley tanks and front end time will tell .
I think I'm going to have another fun summer playing with VW .

Glen, I have the remains of a trike that I used to ride...along with a manual that the person who built it used for info...it may not be of much help with those two builds but I can get you a copy if you want it..I want to redo my trike sometime as I used to have a ball with it !!! Ted

Thanks Bren , I'll pass on the photos to Mike & I called Bud about them this morning .

Now I have never rode a Trike but I think that I would add a set of wheels behind the motor on this setup .

We are also are looking into a Harley 45 / VW setup that Bud heard about in the area .

?? Do Good old boys ( Old Fa#ts ) still do Wheelies ? ;D ;D

I just got back from town and picking the handbook from Ted . Thank You Ted !!! And Bren I had Bud stop by this mourning to look at the photos you posted , We don't think that this is the setup for Mike but Bud want to go to BC and get a good look at it maybe for himself .
