This is kind of bumming me out because last year was my first time going to Funfest. I always wanted to go but usually something happened. I did have a blast and wanted to go again. I was planning on bringing Wifey this time. I do seam to agree with everyone. Its customer appreciation right, but by the way we are going to thank our customers by charging them to attend during this economic down turn.
Ok lets make plans for Larry's Offroad. I think i attended there show once about 7 years ago back when I lived in Ohio. Lots of clean big engined buggies and sand rails.

Last year was our first time going to MAM, and also, had a great time. However, I feel the same way about, Customer Appreciation, being charged is NOT a good way to show it. The response from MAM saying that now it has grown too big, and is now more of a CAR SHOW than Customer Appreciation could have been communicated up front, and they might have avoided this feeling of Unappreciation. I will think twice before ever ordering from MAM again.
I am now looking forward to Larry's SHOW.

Larry's was a great sponsor for my senior project's team for collage. (Air Ride Fasty) Larry's is usually a good show and Dayton is a large enough city to have good places to eat and stay at if need be.
On a side note: I have not been impressed with any of the quality of the parts that I have ordered through MAM in the last year, in fact due to poor quality parts I am now down to just one outside mirror on my convertible bug.

I also agree with everyone else, about the appreciation day.I also agree with Kirby and Dave on the quality of parts. I thought they were junk long before a year ago, their expensive headlight bucket and trim ring(that rusted the first time it got wet). When I called to complain, they more or less said tough. I made the decision not to order any other parts from them a long while ago. I never was able to go to FUN FEST, but I think we as a group can have fun where ever we go!!! My 2 cents. Kenn

Considering the "quality" of the parts I got from Mid America last spring, the only reason I would go would be to chew the owners a new one. I've never attended, but considering their downward slide this type of move doesn't surprise me at all. I definitely get the feeling that the current owners are just trying to suck as much short-term profit out of the name as possible.
I've had excellent luck with aircooled.net and will be sticking with them wherever possible.

This year was the first time in like 4-5 years I went, it didnt seem any bigger than when I used to go previously. All about cashing in.

Im holding off on any decission till later in the year. The extra 15.00 is sucky and I will not pay to do the cruise (didnt really enjoy it that much for free frankly) Like you couldnt just tag onto the rear of it yourself anyway. But if its only 15.00 separating us from going or not going.... not sure. I really had fun at the show last time. I guess it would all depend on what larrys is really like. Im not all that jazzed to see a bunch of rails. Anyone have pictures of this event? Or a flyer that shows what events they have planned? It is closer so thats a plus.
Frankly I understood even last time that MAM was a corporate event and that corporate sucks and does not really care about people. I have lately just been buying from JCW (they really treat you right) for the cheapo stuff, and Barnums and greens for the good stuff.

Frankly, it's hard to get excited about $15.00. These things are much more expensive to run today than they were years ago, especially when you consider liability insurance. Ever wonder why we have to sign a waiver to get into 131?
I have had good service in the past with MAM in the past, but have not ordered anything for a few years. I suspect that a lot of what they sell is the same stuff we see from larger venders at shows...pretty suspect stuff. I don't really care for anyplace that sells cheap clear distributor caps and cheap chrome tin as there primary stuff. I just can't see withholding my business for trying to recoup some costs for running this kind of event.
I don't, however, see any excuse for a $75 afternoon drive. My grandparents live in Vandalia, IL, which is 30 minutes from Effingham, and frankly there is just not that much to see in that part of Illinois. For it to be worth $75, that has to be some mighty fine barbecue.
If I can get away, I'll try and visit my grandparents, and spend a day at the show.
The off-road stuff interests me a little, but mostly from the technical side. I just have never been able to muster much enthusiasm for wailing around off-road.

Pics look good, The only thing I look forward to about Larry's is the racing but I am going to Funfest with my Parents. Its tradition for us as they said for the past 10 years.

I am still undecided. I really enjoyed funfest the last two years. I don't like the way they communicated the change to a pay event at all; seems very unprofessional. I am very interested in going to Larry's. I think there is potential of growing our relationship with them and cross promoting our events and theirs. Larry's has a good following and a long history, I think we could learn from them also. I guess I am leaning towards Larry's at this point; but still undecided.

I agree with Dave. We enjoyed Fun Fest a lot last year. We are looking forward to attending this year also if we could fit it around our daughter's graduation from Knox college in Galesburg, Ill on June 5th. Larry's show is quite different and we are not interested in attending.
