Hey all,
I'm trying to gauge some interest for a little venture I'm working on. I'm going to be designing and making QUALITY aftermarket parts.
First on my list is a shifter. I bought a scat shifter, it was a total POS and is what prompted this. The design I made bring similar throw, even less slop and the reverse lockout is stock style (push down the whole shaft).
Brake caliper brackets for disk brakes interest me as I am contemplating doing something custom on my 1302.
Seat slide brackets are something I've thought about but haven't looked into the feasibility of. Something that uses the stock parts attached to the pan and then leaves a universal platform for aftermarket seats should be cool.
Manifolds are something I'd like to do but I only have a 3-axis CNC mill. Machined manifolds with flanges welded on would be no problem.

I'd be interested in wide 5(205) disc brake setup for use with stock 14" Thing wheels, they make them but for the price they want I haven't taken the plunge. Thanks Kenn

I could use a job . How about a low profile engine jack with a ribbed platform and adjustable tilt front & back and side to side . I can get photos if needed .

I like the jack Idea. But it should just be an attatchment that fits onto an ordanary 2.5 ton hydro jack.

I do more metal fabrication than machining. I do some machine work but things like align boring cases is beyond what I really care to do. Machining simple solids isn't that big of a deal.
Our shop uses mostly autocad or solidworks. We are making the move to Catia though. For CAM, usually bobcad. Most CNC jobs we do are actually easy enough to do position data by hand. Personally for a lot of manual jobs I use Google sketchup.
The jack is a good idea. Are you talking about something for installing/removing engines? Heck, come to think of it that is something I could really use. If you have pictures and more details of what you are looking for, shoot them over to jbrandt@usfabinc.com
Cup holder is exactly inline with the sort of product I want to get into first. Something bolt-on and fairly universal that a lot of people want. I will model that tonight. Stainless can be done, but talking stainless and a fairly cosmetic item I can only assume polished which will be pretty expensive. Powdercoated or even a good painted steel should be pretty cheap and tough.
An entire brake system for a 181 might be a stretch, not saying I can't do it, I just don't have the resources at this time. To do an entire kit will probably have some considerable development cost that will put anything I do on par with what is already available pricewise. On top of that, I want to avoid turnkey kits, especially brakes due to the liability involved. I'll tread the waters with other non-critical stuff before I venture into that realm.

Cool man, I'm a machinist too This is where I work at. www.barrotcorp.com/Since last November when the economy took a doo doo they implemented pay freeze's and overtime. So they rent me the machines and I do stuff on the side. Good luck on your new venture.

Thanks for the try and I understand the liability issue. I am about to order up a kit, I think. Just not sure which way to turn, if I still had a Bridgeport I'd try it myself but I don't so I won't. I built/assemblied a rear disc setup for my buggy with drilled rotors and it works very well. Thanks again. Kenn

Not sucking in what way? It wasn't that high on my list because of market saturation but if they are all pretty terrible, I can look into it. I don't have a CNC lathe but the possibility for getting one exists.
