Help needed w/ Capital Area Humane Society-Lansing

I know I just joined your forums, but if someone in Lansing can help me, my family and I would greatly appreciate it.

I am trying to adopt a puppy from the Capital Area Humane Society. We had a dog for eleven years which passed away last year due to cancer. Our six year old son is now asking for another dog and my wife and I agree that we have enough time and energy to get another puppy.

I started searching the internet for the same breed of dog we lost last year, and believe we found one in Lansing (we're 95% sure it's the same breed.) This breed is very rare and are only available from breeders in Texas at $500-$800 a puppy and even more rare from Shelters. When I contacted the Lansing Shelter, the "Behavior" specialist (Stephanie Lamb) told me she would not allow me to adopt one of "their" dogs, because of "where I live." I've tried calling the Manager (Julia Palmer,) but she won't even call me back.

Before I drive the five hours there, and five hours back, does anyone know an employee or a Board Member who works for or volunteers in the Capital Area Humane Society in Lansing Michigan that may be able to help me?

Hell of an offer, but I wouldn't want to put anyone in that position ... yet.

I made an appointment to see the puppy tomorrow and speak to the CEO of the Shelter. I don't know what will come of it, but we're making the trip there tomorrow (Saturday.) We're also bringing photos of our old puppy and layout of our property with photos so they can see the fence we have in place.

If this does not work, and we're sure we want the puppy, I'll see what other avenues I can pursue ... and we may contact you off line at that time.

I'm just very surprised they would reject us, before they even spoke to us and found out the full story. And we're trying to SAVE a dog.

Thank you everyone for your help.

When I was speaking to the Shelter minutes ago to confirm our appointment for tomorrow, I was told that the puppy we were looking to adopt (Alli,) was "just" adopted last night.

I find that very hard to believe, especially since she's been there for over two months, but I presume it can happen.

My kid's heart will be broken tonight . I hope Alli found herself a good home.

Sorry to hear, give us the # and the name of the breed, so someone can do a follow-up call to confirm what you were told about Alli. NO problem with the offer to help I love dogs and us VW owners have to stick together at any cost. Kenn
