You might check with George and or Greg for used options. They have been at it a long time and just might have what you are looking for.

If it comes to it I will. Wanted to give Barnums the first shot. He's always been there when I needed something, like right before a trip, last second stuff. He gets first dibs.

Do you know what thread size and pitch is? I have a really good spark plug thread chaser set that I bought when I had to repair my Moto Guzzi LeMans heads. The threads looked like someone beat the spark plugs in with an air wrench. There are three tools used, one for the initial pass, one to do the majority of the work, and the final to de-burr and polish the threads. I'll look today, and you are welcome to use the set if you want to. It's always amazing to me how ham-fisted a lot of POs are with spark plugs...no anti-seize, etc.

Well its a 14mm hole. I tried a snap on thread chaser and no beans its just too many threads missing. SO>.... I sent to the machine shop and 80.00 I have 4 professionally installed helicoils. Im told its primo work and should last the life of the head If I dont do anything stupid. Ill recieve them back today some time. I probably wont take em home till mon. Ya know all things considered Im not complainging. A machined block and done up heads for 880.00 total with shipping and everything is not a bad deal.

Good choice. I've had a few done that way and never ever had an issue. The correct tools help a lot with installing helicoils.
Price sounds really good, and the head looks nice. Should be a real stump puller when it's done.

Question on valve stemm lengths. I here that they should all be the sam length but when I look at mine the two in the middle are taller by a smidge. Will this cause issues with angles? I mean the adjusters will handle the difference no prob but will there be binding?

For setting the pushrod length and shims under the rockers it is best to have all the valves on one side of the motor to all be at the same height. Here's a pic of a rocker that I use to measure how much to grind to get them the same. The extension rides on the valve cover flange (which I'm thinking is close enough to parallel with the cam).

You set the adjuster on the longest valve and then measure the clearence on the other ones without moving the adjuster. A litttle adding and subtracting and you know how much to grind off each stem to match the shortest one

they are spain weber 44's taken off a running motor last week. Comes with everything including good air filter set up (no volicity stacks thogh...)
450.00 delivered.
Not too bad if they are as advertised.
Block is at the Post office. Ill pick it up wed.
Rotating assy to be purchased real soon as soon as I can figure out if I need oversized bearing and if so what size. How is an easy (or not so easy) way to find out. I have a dial indicator gage...
Then its just putting it all together.

Dansam:
Great news on the Webers! Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Are you going to run air cleaners, velocity stacks, or both?

Ill run the air filters as they come with it.
Next aquisition--- Rotating assy. After much discusion with Barnums we decided Brothers VW deal is too good to pass up. Couldnt even get even 300.00 close enough. Just goes to show if you buy stuff in enough bulk it makes is hard to beat the price. If we could have come around 100.00 appart I woulda done it with barnums but nope couldnt do it. Frankly the name brand stuff Brothers is using is just a screamin deal (look at page 3 of this post for list). Anyway thats whats up. As soon as I can figure out what bearings to get Im ordering the rotating assy then Im building!!
