In my experience it depends on the car and how well you know the model (what to look for and who did the rebuild/repair) Some cars are valued so low by insurance companies that a minor fender bender could be a total and someone could just do some minor body work and have a nice car but with a salvage title. As always it depends on who you are buying it from. I have also seen guys just cover up some pretty serious damage just to make a quick buck so you would definitely want to know what was repaired and how Steve G

Thanks.
I was mostly concerned if it was a hassle to register the vehicle for the road.

My father in laws Grand Prix has a salvage title. He has owned this car for over three years and keeps thanking me for finding it for him all the time.

Salvage title is generally no problem. If you have just rebuilt the car, it will need to be inspected to prove it's road worthiness. This inspection will usually produce an inspection document of some sort. In Michigan it usually costs about $125 or so for this inspection. It only needs to be done once prior to having it retitled or adding plates. If it is already licensed and insured, the transfer and re-title should be no different that any other car. The only thing a salvage title will do is devalue the car when you need to sell it or trade it in. That's usually not a problem because you paid a lot less than a normally titled car. Hope this helps. Scotty
