Don't read anything into it. Many of the old trailer guys confuse rarity with desirability, and over-polished, white walled, incorrectly accessorized trailers as correct. I would also suspect that there is a bit of the old "looking down their nose at just a VW" going on.

If the truth be told, you Westy is pretty exceptional, no matter how you look at it, as a very correct camper (one class), a very cool and correct VW (anothe class), and a unique vehicle that is exceptional condition with an exceptionally high mortality rate for a 30+ years old truck that can also compete with sports cars, muscle cars etc.

Just because someone has one of fifty old, nondescript brand whatever trailers does not make it desirable or an automatic trophy winner.

P.S. Over accessorized things also seem to be a VW thing too...sometimes it seems to me that people are more interested in the odd accessories than they are for the car...

I am kinda surprised to hear that. My Dad and I and usually 2 of my uncles camp with the tin can tourists at their spring and fall rally at camp Dearborn. Everyone I have come in contact with have been super people. Although maybe that's just who we attract The fall rally is coming up in September and is usually lots of fun. We do an "open house" and flea market in the campground so you can walk around and check out the other campers and put a table out to sell some junk

Glen, Don't let it bother you, your Westy ROCKS!! I won a trophy the year I restored Ruffuss and they said, but it's foreign, when I went up to get the trophy. So are MG's, Porshes, and the like. They(the cry babies) can kiss my lily white fanny. You and the Westy deserve what you got. So tell em aircooled rules, next year we will be there again, and hopefully a VW gets an award, just too show we are here to stay. Later Kenn
