Well, I took the car out of the garage to give it a bath and there before me was a puddle of oil. How big you ask? Well, it was about a 12" circle. Now, with the problems I have had before with the motor you can guess the words that came out of my mouth. It was a sunday and I felt bad using such language after church but I got over it and kept using them. I called the people who built the motor and I finally got to speak to the owner, he is the one who reads the sales orders and just builds them. He asked me if I was running an external cooler, I said no and then he asked me if it was a dune buggy and I said it was a super beetle, he laughed and said he would have never sold me a 1835 for my super beetle. He says the cylender walls are to thin, he is will ing to give me a 1776 for the same price that I payed for the other motor or bump me up to a 1914 for 200 bucks. He is also going to throw a external oil cooler in for free. Real nice guy and willing to do anything to make it right. He also went on to tell me that the guy who use to take the orders is no longer there due to the fact that he was selling the wrong items to customers. Good to know. I will be shipping the motor back later this month and installing a bigger one. Now that the car is going to be non-mobile I am going through the car and fixing everything I do not like about it. I will post pics of the progress.

Cool. Glad to hear the builder is making things right. Don't you have a 1600 you could put in to drive it for now? Not fun to be without a car.

I have a 1600 but it needs to be rebuilt. I have the funds but they are going to other places. New rear drums, fuchs wheels, new seals on the car that were not replaced, more body work to the underside, new steering wheel, and paint.

I am getting ready to ship the motor back and have to decide on the 1776 or the 1914. I have been doing some research and found that the 1776 is more reliable but not as fast as the 1914. I have also read that a 1776 with duals on it could push 100 hp. Is this true? I want something that is going to be reliable and fast with out too many other parts added to it for cooling. Also as mentioned before, do I have to run a mesa cooler on either one of these motors? If not then I will probably go with the 1914. This is what I am hoping.

Well it all depends on how you build it. One can make a 1776cc engine out perform a 1915cc engine. Heads, cam, carbs and compression all play a roll. I would say that a 1776cc engine could see a 100hp if done right. I personal would go with a 1915 just because it will cost you the same to build but I don't rely on my car it is just a play vehicle. As for the mesa cooler. I run one but I was also running a 2276cc at the time. I use the 72 pass with the fan. I think that a 96 pass would be to hard to fined a place to hang it. Try to hang it so that it is the same if not lower then your oil sump.
