So, What route was you folks thinking of to Effingham IL? I live 60 miles south of New Buffalo, Michigan, in Winamac IN. Doug Willis of Lafyette IN wanted to run with me and maybe meet up with you guys. Were you thinking of going down through Indiana some or over to Chicago on 94? If your wandering about a good route through Indiana, I know most of Indiana pretty well. You would make better time on the interstate to Chicago and down 57 but traffic is nutty though construction on 94 east of 65 and heavy through the tolls on 294 to 80. What are you thinking? Hope to meet up with you all somewhere along the way. Tim Shannon

I don't recall the exact route but we avoid Chicago and drive down into Indiana then over to 57. Some of our route is 2 lane back roads. I'll as my Dad tomorrow what the route is exactly as he usually leads our group down.

My Street Pilot says it's 280 miles from BC to MAMW in Effingham. We go 94 to 57 to the spot. Takes about 5 hours of easy driving except for any construction and crap around Chicago. A decent alternative is to go south on 49 at Chesterton to Valpo and across 30 to 57. Dustin, Where will we meet along 94 in the morning and what time. Is Oshtemo (9th st) OK or further west? Let us know.
Thanx, Brian

We always meet in Benton Harbor with everyone then head out. We never go through Chicago due to traffic/construction/bad drivers/etc. I am going to get the exact route from my dad tomorrow.

That might be easier than taking a southern route. Also...It might be easier for the GoodVolks crew to take I-65 South from I-94 and pick up US-24 and shoot over to I-57. the only two lane stretch should be US-24 for about 35 miles. Looks like we can meet up with the first wave of the HarshWinters crew at the rest stop just south of Champaign. Not sure of a time yet, that might be a show stopper! THIS COORDINATION STUFF SUCKS. But it will all be worth it if it comes together. ;D Doug Willis

Traffic is bad up to 65 on 94. There is construction through that part and back ups are long at times. There is also construction at Lowell on 65 at hwy 2. Maybe take 94 to 421 south to 24 and over to 57. It's up to the GoodVolks on what they want to do.

Dstin, I checked with a friend that drives from Valpo area to Hammond IN. every day. He says the westbond side of 94 to 57 is not bad and since we will not be going thru at rush hour there should be no back ups. He also drives the US30 stretch and says the 49 to 30 t0 57 route is good road with no construction, just a little heavier traffic due to traffic bypassing 94. I am bring the small canopy, a trp and poles with bungees and the portable picnic table with me. Any thing else you need?

Brian,
We do not take that route because it has been killer in the past and I lived in Illinois for a couple years. It does not matter what time of day it is or what day it is its bad especially if you have a bunch of old VW's that are going "slow" We take 94 to 65 south then cut over to 57 on 10 this route works great and has some 2 lane action.

Good idea Dan. Good to have numbers in case someone is running late or having trouble, etc.
