We will have the opportunity to have a GTG and park our VWs as a group at the vintage races at Grattan on 8/21/11. There is a small island on the pitside of the track and we will be able to park there as a group and fly our banner. This is a great opportunity to roam the pits and see a wide variety of sportscar racers from earlier years and enjoy the races from great vantage points. The amount of room available is limited to about 8-10 cars, so it will be "first come, first served" for parking on the island. We will still be able to get pitside if more than 10 cars show, but that is the limit for the corral. There will be a cost for entry, but it will be low (estimate $15/person). The schedule on Sundays usually ends mid afternoon for these events, but starts early. I will update this post later with exact times and cost. Just want to get people to mark their calenders at this point.

OOPS, I missed your question Matt, sorry. Grattan is a road course about 1/2 hour north east of Grand Rapids. The VSCDA stands for "Vintage Sports Car Driver's Association". There are several race groups that compete. One of the largest classes is Formula Vee. The other groups include both open wheel cars and fendered sports cars, mostly from the 70's and earlier. Grattan is a unique track. I believe it use to be a drag strip, and the 1/2 mile straight (or close to it) is still used. I raced karts back before the shifters came out and Grattan was a challenge because of gear selection (top speed vs torque for the turns/hills).

I remember going to the drags there in the late 60's. Don't know when they stopped running the 1/4 mile there.

Hi Katt. Hope you can make it!
This is an event that we won't repeat until several years from now, as different brands of cars all get their shot at having a Car Corral at the vintage events. I hope we can make a good showing.

Did a number of laps in my Sonett a long time ago, and put a lot of laps in my old 750 Ducati and loved it. Nice summer days at good speed, and never a worry about having a housewife in a Pinto wagon pulling out in front of you.
Sounds fun...count me in!
